Policy Debate the Key to |
Involving younger people in policy development is the key to engaging the next generation of voters in politics, the Chairman of a Conservative leaning think tank will argue today. The comments will be made ahead of a policy discussion to be chaired by Prospective MP Wendy Morton on youth crime, and a debate upon whether alcohol or drugs should be the priority in addressing its causes. Consult Chairman Matthew Page will say: "Whilst new and first time voters are sceptical of politicians and the political process in general, they want to be able to debate the amount of tax they are paying, how they afford a first home or better protect themselves on the streets." The debate on youth crime is the first in a series of national debates aimed at encouraging people to get involved in policy discussion and air their views. The initiative is being launched in Tynemouth and emphasises the Conservative Party's commitment to the people in the northeast. |
