Consult Visits Northern Inner City Schools

Consult started its tour of the north with a visit to inner city schools in the area.

Consult Chairman Mathew Page talked to sixth form politics students about he importance of advocating the role of younger people in policy development, then using this to engage new groups of people in widening the political community.

The students then talked to Matthew about a variety of issues which they felt affected them, including the rate of taxation they should pay when leaving University, the state of north east public transport and making it more accessible, extended licensing hours and whether this was providing opportunities or problems, as well as the importance of the environment to the development of political debate.

Commenting on the visit, Consult Chairman Matthew Page said "It's always a great pleasure to visit schools and give the opportunity to new groups of people to engage with policy related issues. As well as possessing both the ideas together with an open minded attitude, it is vital that younger people feel adequately represented and able to convey their views.

This is imperative to tackling voter apathy and disillusionment amongst tomorrows generation."
