Consult to Tour Northern Communities |
Consult will next week undergo a tour of northern communities in looking to both increase the opportunity for democratic representation and engage with new groups of younger people in giving them the chance to put forward their own views and ideas. High on the agenda is a visit from members of the Consult Management Team to visit rural constituencies around the city of York to examine the issues raised by Charlotte Kelly as in need of addressing for rural constituents to have the same opportunity as their urban counterparts. Consult will also visit northern based schools based in the cities to advocate the role of younger people in policy development in tackling voter apathy and disillusionment, as well as the importance of allowing younger people to have their say on the surrounding environment in promoting a strategy of active and purposeful engagement. Consult Chairman Matthew Page in looking ahead to the tour commented: "In handing down responsibility and autonomy to younger people by encouraging policy involvement for the next generation, it is vital that we reach out beyond the 'comfort zone' to the people vital to restoring the countries democratic future. This tour will only enable Consult in our quest to fulfill this most vital of objectives." |
